Army ROTC Buckeye Alumni, friends, and family members,

It is nice and cold here in Ohio. Looking outside, I know why the Buckeye colors are Scarlet and GRAY!

State of the Corps of Cadets. We have 154 enrolled cadets and 94 contracted. We’ve already met out contract mission for 2016, 2017, and 2018. We are working on mission sets 2019 and 2020 now. We have a commission mission of 25 for each of those years, but will most likely exceed our annual missions. This year we will commission 27.

BuckeyeThon: Cadet Seth Lamp organized the first ever Army ROTC BuckeyeThon team to raise money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. 13 Cadets formed a BuckeyeThon team to raise money for cancer research. The event was a dance-a-thon held on February 5th, where the Cadets danced continuously for 24 hours. The team raised $4,626.00 for Nationwide Children’s Hospital! Ohio State, as a whole, raised $1,338,872 for kids. The Cadets who joined Cadet Lamp on the team included: Cadet Seth Lamp, Taylor Marsilio, Calvin Curtain, Sydney Kiel, Samantha Good, Ana Potter, Emily Snyder, Ryan Ho, Sean Duffy, Ben Hoyt, Joshua Widdifield, Bradley Robertson, and Mae Hutchinson. Thank you for your support!

Military Ball: On Friday, the 26th of February, more than 326 Cadets, friends, and family members celebrated the 108th Buckeye Battalion Military Ball at the Archie Griffin Grand Ball room. The guest speaker was General McDew, the TRANSOM Commander. His remarks brought the crowd to their feet and were centered on the tests in life that the Cadets will face as Officers. He also talked about command and what an awesome privilege it is to command our soldiers. A special thanks goes out to Cadets Sophie Mouton and Cadet Tyler Thompson. They did an amazing job planning and executing this year’s ball. We hope to see more Alumni, friends, and family members next year.

Men’s Basketball Team: The Buckeye Battalion Basketball team competed in a 36-team tournament hosted by Notre Dame ROTC. After breezing through pool play with wins over Syracuse AROTC (67-19), Nebraska AROTC (69-16), and South Dakota State AROTC (46-43) and securing the #4 seed, the team was upset by Iowa State in the first round of bracket play (33-36). We are losing 4 seniors from the team, Cadets Hayes, Barger, Zivkovic, and Daniel, but we return a talented group of under classmen, including Cadets Perry, Hurd, Vadlamani, Carroll, Richards, Morissette, Evans, and Legard. Cadet Carroll won the three point contest by making 18 of 20 three point shots!!

Annual Training Brief: We conducted our Annual Training Brief to the Commanding General. The brief highlighted several key initiatives, including: Our implementation of the Task Force concept with Capital and Ohio University. We will conduct joint operations with Capital starting this April and continue to conduct all training jointly with CU and their 7 affiliate schools. We also outlined the OSU Army ROTC’s value to the university. We did a cost analysis and if the Army ROTC program was a Varsity Sports team on campus, we would rank third, behind Football and Basketball, for revenue generated for the University. We bring in over $1.1 million in scholarship money alone.

Task Force Brief. 7th Brigade visited Ohio State to discuss the Task Force (formally Consortium) concept. Ohio State is providing DS support to Capital and GS support to OU. OSU ROO is already recruiting for OSU, Capital and their 7 affiliate schools. We are also providing logistics support to Capital. We submitted our preferences for naming the Task Force and will have an official name later this year. The names we submitted to represent OSU, Capital, and OU were TF Converse, TF Buckeye, or TF Jesse Owens.

Buckeyes Got Your Back: CASH/A members facilitated Buckeye’s Got Your Back training for all Cadets. The entire Corps of Cadets are trained in sexual violence bystander intervention. CASH/A has also been very active with weekly vignettes and discussion groups.
